"I think you were right when you said we will probably never know exactly what was going on with Isabel and the two men in her life.
I think we can certainly conclude the following though:
In 1901, at the age of 17, Isabel was a housemaid in the household of sister Sarah and husband Harry Henney at Wallington, Croydon, Surrey. Younger sister Maud Humphries, aged 10, was also living there. Isabel's first child, Stanley, was born in Surrey in 1904, with no father's name given on registration of birth. So was it in Surrey that Isabel first came into contact with Alfred Hitchcock ?
She had 4 children (perhaps 3 *) from her relationship with Alfred Thomas Hitchcock:
Stanley George (1904) and Edward William (1905) before her marriage to Alfred in January 1907 and Rosina Isabel (1907) and Albert Henry (1909) after their marriage.
She had 2 children (perhaps 3 *) from her relationship with Thomas Richard Stanley:
Thomas Richard (1910) and Patrick Bernard (1912)
* The doubt is over the father of Albert Henry - his birth certificate indicates it was Alfred Hitchcock, his baptism certificate Thomas Stanley.
In 1911 the crisis surrounding Isabel's ability/desire to look after all her children came to a head. On 22nd January, her five children were all baptised in the Catholic Church, presumably a required forerunner to the Church taking them into care. At the Census, on 2nd April, there's no sign of Alfred Hitchcock, and Isabel is co-habiting with Thomas Stanley at 61 Rayleigh Road, West Kensington, with all 5 children listed. She's recorded as "Married" and Thomas as "Single". We can only guess at the emotions as 5 days later, on 7th April, 4 of the children are officially allocated to temporary carers:-
Stanley to St. Vincents, Feltham
Edward & Rosina to Mrs. East, 4 Felixstowe Road, ?
Albert to Mrs. Green, 49 Felixstowe Road, ?
After 1911, I don't know what happened to Isabel, Alfred Hitchcock, Thomas Stanley or the two children Thomas and Patrick. There is a possible death for Alfred in 1914 which I've yet to pursue.
The Census records for 1921 will be released next year, so perhaps they will shed some light on what became of them all. Update 6Jan2021: In the 1921 Census, Isabel is recorded with Thomas Richard Stanley and 5 children at 133 High Street, Acton, Middlesex.
Note:- Isabel's father Alfred died in 1901 before she 'strayed from the straight and narrow'. I imagine that being an ex-Army man he was a bit of a disciplinarian so god knows how he would have reacted to it all, or whether things would have turned out differently. Mother Hannah Mary died in 1907, so Isabel lost any support she may have had there."
